The No. 22 is a large version of the No. 10 blade with a curved cutting edge and a flat, unsharpened back edge. Used for skin incisions in both cardiac and thoracic surgery and to cut the bronchi in lung resection surgery. Larger than No. 20 and No. 21. Fits No. 22 on handles 4, 4L, 4 graduated and 6B. Packed individually. Box of 100 pieces.

How to use the Swann Morton blades

The way a surgical blade is handled before use can determine how effectively it performs during use. There are a number of ways the cutting edge of a blade can be damaged after it has been removed from its protective foil pack.

When removing a blade from its protective package, be careful not to drop it into a metal bowl or container as this may reduce the initial sharpness of the cutting edge even before it is attached to the handle. If you must use pliers or a needle holder to remove the blade from its protective packaging, be careful not to grab the blade over the cutting edge.
