How to use the Swann Morton blades

The way a surgical blade is handled before use can determine how effectively it performs during use. There are a number of ways in which the cutting edge of a knife can be damaged after it has been removed from the protective film package.

When removing a blade from its protective package, be careful not to drop it into a metal bowl or container as this can reduce the initial sharpness of the cutting edge even before it is attached to the handle. If you must use pliers or a needle holder to remove the blade from its protective packaging, be careful not to grab the blade over the cutting edge.
